Founder's Story - Sharda Bharat
My relationship with gems has always begun at the source. Born in Jaipur—India's world-famous cutting center—I've brought over 30 years of experience from there to SURI. Traveling the world in search of beautiful gems, my journey took me to Burma for the famous Burmese rubies and sapphires, Tanzania for colored stone rough such as tanzanite and aquamarine, and Belgium for both colored diamond rough and polished diamonds. Attending Argyle auctions in Hong Kong opened a new door—introducing me to these rare and extraordinary diamonds.
I worked closely with rough stones—studying their natural forms, envisioning how each could reveal its finest face, and partnering with expert cutters to bring out optimal color and brilliance. That hands-on experience gave me a deep appreciation for the art of transformation and the importance of guiding craftsmen to honor a stone's potential. Over the years, I learned that every gemstone carries value—one that changes with time. Collecting gems is not only a passion but also a powerful investment, though one that requires deep knowledge of both stones and markets. A stone like Rubellite, once sold by me at US$12 per carat, today commands US$500–800 per carat.
After my time in Hong Kong, a chance invitation to a jewelry show introduced me to Taiwan. The warmth, hospitality, and safety I found there inspired me to put down roots and open my own business. Over the next three decades, those roots spread, with offices in Hong Kong and India, and collaborations with jewelers across Turkey, China, Vietnam, and Korea—helping them develop new lines and refine their collections. My journey continued to Africa, Belgium, and Burma to explore vibrant mines and source rough colored stones and diamonds, as well as to the great jewelry markets and exhibitions of Bangkok Japan USA for rare pieces.
As the industry evolved, I watched traditional craftsmanship yield to mass production and machine finishing. While this made jewelry more affordable, something essential was lost: the intimate bond between artisan and wearer. I believe jewelry, when handcrafted and thoughtfully customized, carries a unique story and spirit that no machine can replicate. The experience of owning something deeply personal—an idea or memory brought to life—brings joy and satisfaction. Seeing a client's face light up when a custom piece reflects their personality reinforced for me that jewelry is far more than an accessory; it is an intimate expression of self.

多年以來，我學到每一顆寶石都蘊藏著隨時間而變化的價值。收藏寶石不僅是一種熱情，也是一項極具潛力的投資，只是這需要對寶石與市場都有深厚的理解。例如 Rubellite 紅碧璽，當年我以每克拉 12 美元售出，如今市價已漲至每克拉 500 至 800 美元。
離開香港後，一次偶然的珠寶展邀請，讓我來到台灣。這裡的溫暖、好客與安全感令我深受感動，也讓我決定在此落腳創業。三十年來，這份根基不斷延伸——在香港與印度設立辦公室，並與土耳其、中國、越南及韓國的珠寶商合作，共同開發新系列、精進設計。我的旅程也延續至非洲、比利時與緬甸，探訪色彩繽紛的礦區、尋找珍稀的彩色寶石與鑽石原礦，同時前往曼谷、日本與美國的重要珠寶市場與展覽，尋覓獨特珍品。
隨著產業的演變，我看見傳統工藝逐漸讓位於機械化大量生產。雖然這讓珠寶變得更親民，但也失去了某種本質——匠人與佩戴者之間那份親密連結。我始終相信，手工打造並精心訂製的珠寶，蘊含著獨特的故事與靈魂，是任何機器都無法複製的。擁有一件能夠將想法或回憶化為現實的作品，帶來的喜悅與滿足是無可取代的。當我看到顧客因為訂製珠寶完美展現自我而露出笑容時，我更加確信——珠寶遠不只是配飾，而是一種最貼近自我的表達。

That conviction gave rise to SURI. Built on decades of experience and a global perspective, SURI is rooted in Indian values of integrity in the diamond and gemstone trade, craftsmanship, and personal connection—now brought to Taiwan.
